MIT freshmen are nuts

Pixelsumo pointed me to a project by MIT freshmen who, high on pizza and caffeine, decided they should build a computer controlled disco dance floor. Using 1536 LEDs and 20,000 hand soldered connections, they built a fairly impressive 128 square foot dance floor based on a suggest brought up during an evening meal at Bertuccis.
Man, I miss being in school. And I miss having nerdy friends. All my friends now are rockers… and don’t know shit about electrical engineering.
Which brings me to my next point: Can anyone recommend a person in the Boston/Cambridge area who would be willing to tutor me on the finer points of working with electricity? In the first 2 hours of playing around with my Wiring board, I managed to fry one of my boards and both USB ports on my monitor (purely my error… it was NOT a problem with the board).
I tried book-learnin, but I would rather have someone show up for an hour at a time and teach me the proper way to work with electricity. I simply don’t have the time to take a class, and I would want to structure the ‘course’ to suit my needs. I would happily pay for this service. Contact me at robert {at} flight404 {dot} com.
