My first sketch for processing ver85. Looks very Japanese. It’s a tiling image, so it would be nice if I print it on the Japanese traditional tray.

Because of plenty of experiment, source code is absolutely messy. Don’t look please :-(

beeing digital - offline!

One thing we often forget to remember: how beautiful life can be without the constant stream of music, pictures, videos, data. I was travelling France. The landscapes were amazingly beautiful. We had lots of old and stinky cheese and i really fell in love with “thé du verveine”.

france.jpg

Beeing offline does not have to mean beeing pure analog. I had my IBM ThinkPad X31 with me, the best mobile computer ever made. After beeing disconnected from everything you find your thoughts tumbling and coming to peace. After a while everything seems so logic in the head and i instinctly knew what to do next. I did some good sketches in processing and had very good, satisfying thoughs. We all should from time to time make offline-holidays and hack our computers while beeing offline. More concentration and less effort, a higher state of thinking and a clear view of meaning is worth making the difference.

The Zen of making good design: pull the plug, reward concentration and intense design.

And the winners are…

The two winners of a ticket for next week’s flashconference in Stuttgart are:

Katharina Klodt and Taufan (who doesn’t have a last name as he’s born in Indonesia, interesting, isn’t it?)

As everybody wrote really nice emails and had perfect reasons to be a winner I could not decide who deserved it most - so I just rolled the dice and chose the two winners completely by chance.

Thanks again for taking part! And see you on Friday!

Postcards are good communicationtools for the digital age

What about Postcards? They are cheap, they look good, they tell stories and they can show text, pictures and context (what is essential for communication!). Postcards are cheaper and cooler than square and boring letters. You don’t need to fit any formal criteria, you can even put oddest materials into the postbox. Here i have a little collection of possible postcards.

postcards.jpg

A: A simple postcard with a mindbending citation i added myself on the front. I will send this card, but i still don’t know to whom right now…
B: A very custimized postcard. This is my entrycard from the MediaSpace-Festival i visited last year. The customization (showing my name on the front) was done by the woman who filled out the media-space tickets. A lovely story on each side.
C: Another great (retro?) technique for getting postcards: this is an analogue photograph that i took at the expo2000 in germany. Send your visual memories.
D: No use for old flyers? Why don’t send ‘em by post?

Postcards are even great for anonymous communication (especially for digital paranoids), that can be a real advantage against email. Visit the weblog Postsecret to see anonymous postards in action.

More advantages: the recipient will read your stuff, the recipient will love the work you made especially for him/her
Disadvantages: slow, you don’t know if it will ever reach recipient, low cost but cost often combined with the heading for the next post station / post box

PS: if you want to send me a card:

From the 11th in LATERAL

Last week I officially left Delete-Uk to be a part of the bigger company named Lateral (the crazy guys that used the treemap algorithm for their own website). Don't forget that one of my collegues is Toxi! :)

It is a quite important news.

Not few things have been modified during the journey, now I look forward to check some of these new enhancements.
