ABA Games / D programming language

Kenta Cho is a prototype of an independent game developer that equals to something we call in Germany “Autorenfilm”. This exellent shootergames are 100% selfmade handcrafted and really ROCK! Be sure to check out Torus Trooper, a very fast and addictive 3D-shooter that comes with *ahh, love* abstract grafics, nice electronic soundtrack and great smooth speed and style.

Cho used the ‘D programing language‘ for his games and this really looks interesting. Following the definition at Wikipedia: “D adds modern features like design by contract, unit testing, true modules, automatic memory management (garbage collection), first class arrays, closures (anonymous functions), and a reengineered template syntax.” It has the advantages of C and C++, but is also easier, because it has a ‘garbage collection’ and as far as i can see better GUI handling and other easier methods than C++. Unfortunatelly i am not into C or C++ and there are almost no IDE or tutorials for D yet, but i will keep an eye of it. A good starting point is dsource.org and DedicateD. The ABA games also comes with the d-sources, so there’s another good starting point. If you find more interesting about D, than please leave a line in the comments.

PS: The other good news about programming this week is the official BETA release of Processing V1.0!
